Van Halen at Madison Square Garden
Hey everybody!

The folks over at AlmacksDanceHall.com went to the Van Halen show
on May 23rd at Madison Square Garden. There is a hilarious review
of it up on the site. Here's a little taste of it:

"For me, the original Van Halen is one of few bands that actually have
both amazing showmanship AND solid musicianship to back it up. David
Lee Roth is the ultimate entertainer and has an immeasurable amount of
charisma and energy, even now. He emerged on stage wearing a circus
ringmaster jacket and for a fleeting moment I thought I was accidentally
at the comeback performance of Ziegfried and Roy. But Diamond Dave was at
his best– beaming personality, physically fit, and acting like a surprisingly
appropriate version of himself from days ago. He channeled his old persona,
but thankfully he recognized no one wanted to see a 50 year old humping an
inflated microphone in a spandex number. Me especially. His vocals and moves
are completely intact, and he delivered all the sass and sleaze we have come
to associate with his over the top performances. A high point for me was
when Roth referred to having sex as “getting leg.” Guess what? I’m officially
stealing that phrase and using it from this point forward."

Have a great day!

Does anyone here write Van Halen fanfic or is interested in such a thing? Or, more accurately, in a VH fanfic community? (I couldn't find one on LJ.)

Some Class From Van Halen...
...or at least from a former member. From Michael Anthony's blog:

"Thanks For The support!!

First of all, I hope all of you are having a great Summer!! I want to thank everyone for all the support you're shown me during the past months. I'ts all been pretty crazy, and I just wanted to bring you all up to speed. Alot of you have been asking about the upcoming Van Halen tour and my response to it. It's not that I'm not touring with Van Halen because I'm going out with Sammy, I'm going out with Sammy because I was not invited to do the VH tour.
Sammy told me that if I was asked to be part of the VH tour and decided to do it, it would be totally cool, and it would not tarnish our friendship in the least!! Well it's not to be, and life goes on. I'll still be out there with Sam, and I can't wait to do some partying with all of you. One last note from myself to all the Van Halen fans out there who will be attending their shows...Wolfgang is a great kid, so don't judge him too harshly. I'm sure he'll do just fine!!....See you all soon, Mike

You might also want to check out Van-Halen.com for further information.

They've also been playing the press conference on VH1 Classic :). I'd put it up on YouTube if I could, but... I'm sure it'll be there or on VH1 Classic's website soon (if it isn't already!). Everyone looks amazing, in any case. I'm so excited for the tour, upcoming album (!!!!), and everything else!

An homage to David Lee Roth's "California Girls" music video...
I assume most people have seen David Lee Roth's "California Girls" music video (if not, check it out HERE)...
In true Dresden Dolls fashion, they've turned an idea upside down and back around again and paid a beautiful homage to DLR in their new video, "Shores of California"...

Eddie ain't looking too fine lately.

Ya know, some men like to fool themselves into thinking they get better-looking with age. They point to Sean Connery, who I personally don't think is hot anyway. Women tend to know when they're past their prime. I wonder if Eddie Van Halen and the rest of the band think they've gotten hotter.

Hobo Teeth
Has anyone seen the pictures of Eddie Van Halen at the Vanity Fair Oscars party? He has hobo teeth! That man needs to stop smoking and buy a tube of toothpaste. It's not like the man is busy working on anything, I think he can spare the time to brush his teeth once or twice a month. He looks like he is ready to sit down on the sidewalk and start begging for pennies.

Was Valerie Bertinelli in charge of brushing Eddie's teeth? Has no one else taken the position since she left? Perhaps Eddie's horrific hobo teeth was one reason she left him.

Okay, let's say someone asks you, a Van Halen fan, what three VH albums they should listen to if they want to get to know the band...

What three albums do you suggest?

What order do you say to listen to them?

And what advice do you give to this potential listener?

Just getting out the rust

Taking Over for the filthy but entertaining Howard Stern are very tough shoes to fill on the morning drive as it was for Sammy Hagar to fill Roth's shows in Van-Halen 20 years ago. Everyone will always give the nod to the Diamond Dave version of VH as the morning listeners will do the same for Howard, But like Sammy did Roth will be the orange to the apple and do very well.

I have listened eagerly in DLR's inaugural week and after a tough first day. I find Diamond Dave to be a very well spoken, well educated and a very interesting listen. He will never be Howard Stern nor do I think he aims to be. As an adult I am a huge fan of Howard Stern, but as I get older I see things alot differently from a parental perspective. With 2 young kids in diapers the time is going to come when I am driving them to school and when I would normally would have Stern on. There would be no way I would want my kids to be listening to 3 woman throwing up on a twisted naked man between a good interview or informative information. I myself find it hilarious as a 35 year old man, but to have my kids going into Kindergarten talking about it would most likely lead to unnecessary PTA meetings.

Roth provides color to current events and common peoples situational everyday life endeveaurs without the getting into the pleasures of anal sex and when his shows grows I hope that celebrities will be looking to plug something on free radio so we can find out how well he will interviews. That was one of the biggest things I loved about Stern besides the filthy humor was his ability to conduct the best interviews with the absolute best guests and ask the tough questions. Time will tell how it goes. Tom Chiusano is going to be board not having to have to play close attention to Roth's broadcasts because I think Roth has the ability despite his insanity to provide a good listen by showing off his intelligence to speak different languages and to show how well cultured he is in all areas of the spectrum. He can boast all he wants about his certifications as a helicopter pilot, an EMT technician and a Martial Arts specialist. Throw in 25 years on the road as a rock star and you have one interesting individual.

On the flip side. I greatly miss Stern, but I am not ready to take on even the smallest of bills at this time with a big mortgage and the cost of baby formula I am not going to pay for something when I can get it for free. 12 bucks a month is not worth it to me just to hear Howard and Robin use swear words. I wish Howard well. Hopefully when the cost goes down to 3 bucks a month I may consider owning a satellite radio, but for now - hum an a boom a la boom al la hum an a la boom ala hum al boom al - BOP!!!!!!
